* In Memory Of A Dear Friend *We are very sad to announce that Susan Mendez, one of the founders and president of Whiskers and Wags-4-Adoption, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2012 after a courageous and hard fought battle against cancer. Whiskers and Wags will continue to save animals in honor of her memory. She was a true rescuer who would save any animal in need. We will carry on Sue's dream.
How We Came To Be - Whiskers and Wags was incorporated in May 2004. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit, tax-exempt all volunteer rescue and adoption group.
The cats and dogs we have for adoption are all rescued animals. Many are former pets abandoned at area pounds, found on the streets, in parks and alleyways, or given up by their owners. Regardless of how an animal comes to us, we provide food, shelter, and medical care.
* We Need You *
Sponsor-A-Pet was created to benefit all the animals within the Whiskers and Wags family. Some animals are adopted quickly and some, who may be a little harder to place, stay with Whiskers and Wags for a longer period of time. Unfortunately, some of our animals need immediate medical attention. All Sponsor donations will go directly for vet visits, medication, food, bedding, treats and anything else that may be needed to help that pet while in Whiskers and Wags care. Any pet needing sponsorship will have a sponsor me button right in their bio, simply click on it to sponsor that pet, sponsor donations are for $10.00 per month. You will be sent an update via e-mail or letter once a month about your special, sponsored dog or cat. Should the pet be adopted, you will be notified immediately. For more information, please email 4everscoopin@comcast.net. Thank You for caring!
Foster Homes Needed - Our animals do not live in cages but in volunteer foster homes. We always need temporary homes for our rescued animals. If you have any room in your heart and home, please consider this act of kindness and foster a loving cat or dog. We especially need volunteers to bottle feed kittens and to foster mother cats with nursing kittens. To foster, please email 4everscoopin@comcast.net. Fostering saves lives!
Donations Always Welcome - We can use almost anything, but the following donations would be particularly appreciated: litter (any type), cat food (dry & canned), coupons for cat food, pet carriers/crates/cages, litter scoopers, air fresheners, office supplies, medical supplies, printing services and phone cards.
Our Adoption Priorities - We as a group feel that each animal has their own unique personality, as do people. So when we look for a perspective home for our animals, the needs of each animal is our first priority. These animals have already had enough trauma in their lives, so we hope to insure that their new family will be their forever family.
Adopting a pet is a long term commitment. Cats and dogs can live 15-20 years. The animal will become emotionally attached to you and be there to support you and love you through every phase of your life. You should do the same. Before you adopt, please seriously consider the long term commitment involved.
Kittens - We try to place kittens in pairs. Kittens play together, sleep together, and keep each other company while you are out. They teach other manners and keep each other out of trouble. So unless you have another cat already at home, our kittens come in pairs.
Adoption Fees - We will ask you to fill out an application. Filling out an application does not mean automatic approval. All applications are reviewed by volunteers. We try to place animals that enjoy the company of other animals in a home where there will be companionship. But we do have animals who would be happy to be the only pet in your life. Our adoption fee is $100 for a kitten or cat. If you adopt two of our companion animals, the fee is $150. All of our animals are vet checked and tested. All inoculations are current according to the age of the animal.
We will take the animal back FOR ANY REASON. Do not give the animal away, or take it to a pound where it may be killed. Just call us and we will arrange to take the animal back.
Applications - Here is online electronic Cat Adoption Application. Fill it out and click submit, the application will be email to us, and you will be redirected back to the website. We will contact you as quickly as possible.. Please keep in mind we all have full time jobs, so this may take up to a week to process. Here is online electronic Dog Adoption Application. PETCO is generously allowing Whiskers and Wags to show companion animals for adoption at their store located at 300 U.S Highway 202, Raritan on alternating weekends. Our volunteers are there from 12 noon to 3 p.m. PETCO also allows us to keep companion cats for adoption at their Adoption Center.
While at adoption events our mascot, Andy, is there sitting on his throne waiting to be petted by all who walk by (pictured above left of address). Andy is a 4 year old Maine Coon cat, who is FIV positive. FIV cats live normal lives, but finding the right adoptive families for them can sometimes be more challenging. Andy is a big hit with adults and children alike. No one can resist Andy's charm. Andy is our ambassador of good will. Stop by PETCO to say "hello" to Andy and also visit his furry friends waiting to be adopted.
